British Columbia SPCA Recognizes SYNLawn’s Contributions to Shelter Improvements

SYNLawn, a leader in synthetic turf, donates labor and materials to create a beautiful backyard-type space for shelter dogs.

Kelowna, BC — It was a proud but tearful moment when Mike Holdenried, national sales manager of SYNLawn Canada, and the BC SPCA Kelowna Branch posthumously recognized Rene Bourgault during the dedication of a 900-square-foot play and exercise space.

In 2015, Bourgault, franchise owner of SYNLawn Okanagan and avid supporter of the SPCA, donated 900 square feet of pet turf and the labor needed to create a space where dogs that are awaiting adoption can exercise freely. Sadly, Bourgault died in a river-rafting accident shortly after the project was completed and just a few weeks before he was due to be married to his high school sweetheart, Chelsea Ray.

In 2017, the new owners of SYNLawn Okanagan, following in Bourgault’s footsteps, donated an additional 900 square feet of synthetic turf and installation labor. This second play area was dedicated to local resident Erica Malanchuk who has tirelessly worked to rescue stray animals and donated her time to caring for the animals at the Kelowna SPCA.

“I am very honored to host the dedication of these two wonderful spaces and to recognize the efforts of these two very special people,” said Sean Hogan, SYNLawn branch manager.

SYNLawn, as a corporation, has adopted the SPCA as its pet charity throughout the U.S. and Canada. In addition to the Kelowna SPCA, SYNLawn is donating labor and material for six additional SPCA shelters around the world as well as a portion of the sales proceeds from its special synthetic pet turf to the SPCA organization.

SYNLawn also supports the SPCA Bagdad Pups Rescue program to bring dogs back together with soldiers who have returned from service and had to leave their 4-legged friend behind. The turf company is offering $250 off a SYNLawn installation to anyone who adopts a dog from a shelter.
